You are handing a stranger a key to your house. “Insured and background-checked” appears on every cleaning website in New Jersey, including ours, which makes it close to meaningless as a differentiator unless you ask what is behind it.
Questions worth asking anyone
- Insured for what, and for how much? General liability is standard. Ask whether it covers damage to your property, not only injury
- Are the cleaners employees or subcontractors? This changes who is liable if something goes wrong
- Who exactly is coming? A company that cannot tell you in advance is sending whoever is free
- Is it the same person each visit? Rotating crews mean re-explaining your house forever
- What happens if something breaks? A company without a clear answer has not thought about it
The key question nobody asks
How is your key or code stored, and who has access to it? This matters more than almost anything else on the list, and it is the question we get asked least often.
Our answers
We are fully insured. Every cleaner is background-checked before entering a client’s home. You get the same cleaner on the same schedule, and you will know who is coming. If something breaks, we tell you the same day — before you find it.
And the guarantee
If a room is not right, tell us within twenty-four hours and we re-clean it at no charge. That has happened, and it will happen again, because people are doing the work. What matters is what happens next.
New Jersey’s Division of Consumer Affairs has general guidance on hiring home services that is worth ten minutes of anyone’s time.
Employees versus subcontractors
This distinction sounds like paperwork and is not. A company using subcontractors may have insurance that does not extend to the person actually in your house, and the liability picture if something goes wrong is far murkier. Ask directly, and be slightly wary of a vague answer.
What a good damage policy looks like
Things get broken. A vase gets caught, a cable gets pulled. What separates companies is not whether it happens but what follows: told the same day, before you find it; a clear process for repair or replacement; and no argument about whether it was already like that.
Consistency is a safety feature
The same cleaner every visit is usually sold as a convenience. It is also the strongest security arrangement available to a small company. One person accountable for one house, who knows what normal looks like in it, beats a rotating roster in every respect that matters.
Ask us anything on this list
We would rather answer these questions in the first conversation than have someone wondering about them in month three. If any company is evasive on insurance, screening, or how they store your key, that is your answer.
